THE FILM

A Friendship Placed Under Military Order.

Romania, during the First World War. Before the army, Isaac and Ion shared a history shaped by friendship, trust, obligation, and debt. War transforms that relationship into a moral trap.

Isaac has served as a soldier, yet he is branded a deserter and placed under the authority of the man who knows him best. Ion receives an order demanding obedience at the cost of friendship and conscience. Rather than carry it out immediately, he forces both men toward a dangerous crossing through a collapsing wartime landscape.

Their journey passes through trenches, forests, ruined positions, severed rail lines, an abandoned farm, a chapel, and exposed ground leading toward an enemy valley.

ISAAC STRUL

ROMANIA AT WAR

A Country Breaking Around Two Men.

The film is set in Romania and along the Eastern Front during the First World War, with Fălticeni and the surrounding wartime landscape forming part of its historical world.

This is not a conventional battlefield epic. War is experienced through damaged terrain, military orders, deprivation, documents, distant violence, abandoned objects, and the behavior of people who understand that authority can become lethal without warning.

THE FORM

Only Isaac and Ion Are Ever Seen.

The film follows the defining TWO ACTORS rule: only Isaac and Ion appear on screen. Sara and Vornicu may recur as recognizable off-screen voices, but they are never shown.

Every other human presence is created through sound, orders, documents, belongings, traces, light, landscape, and the reactions of the two visible characters. Artillery, patrols, trains, animals, smoke, weather, and radios allow the war to extend beyond the frame.

Intimacy Becomes Scale.

The production is built around performance, physical labor, terrain, silence, sound, and object-based storytelling. Landscapes carry historical scale while the camera remains accountable to two human beings.

The Film Begins on the Page.
